 Substance Abuse Prevention Skills Training (SAPST)

When:                         June 15-18, 2015

                                    Sign-in will begin at 8:30 a.m.  Training will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 5:00 p.m. each day.

Where:                        National Safety Council Training Facility, 421 Mission Court, Irmo, SC  29063

Who Should Attend:   Practitioners new to the field of prevention, or working in related fields. 
Training is limited to 25 participants.

Prerequisite:               Completion of an online course (approximately 5 hours) titled Introduction to Substance Abuse Prevention: Understanding the BasicsParticipants must bring a certificate of completion for the online course to be admitted to the weeklong face-to-face training.

Description:                The SAPST includes two parts:  an online course (approximately 5 hours) titled Introduction to Substance Abuse Prevention: Understanding the Basics, followed by this four-day face-to-face training.  This foundational course offers an introduction to the history of prevention, key concepts and definitions, specific drug effects, and an exciting glimpse into the effects of substance use and addiction on the brain.  NOTE:  There will be an online Center for the Application of Prevention Technologies (CAPT) registration process for the online course.  Instructions will be provided following receipt of a DAODAS registration form.

Objectives:               1.  To understand prevention theory, planning, and research.

                                    2.  To become familiar with social marketing and environmental strategies.

                                    3.  To understand the basics of evaluation.

Credit:                        31 hours (5 hours for the online course + 26 hours of face-to-face training).  (Participants must fully complete the online course and the face-to-face training to receive credit.  Partial credit will not be awarded.)

Cost:                           $125.00  (Lunch will be provided each day.)
