The process for certification involves the completion of the application package including documentation of experience, required mentoring hours, and approved education/training hours; then, successful completion of the written examination; and finally, successful completion of the oral examination.
Application Package: The completed application package (including all documentation of required experience, SCAPPA-approved training/education, and mentoring done with approved mentors) is reviewed by the Peer Review Committee that meets quarterly. Completed application packages must be received by the designated date ( Column 2) in order for a candidate to even be considered as eligible to take the next scheduled written exam ( Column 3&4).
Approval of Training Hours: All education and training listed in the application must have prior SCAPPA approval. These requests for SCAPPA approval are submitted separately and well in advance of the time the application package is completed. ( See dates in Column 1 for submission deadlines.)
Written Examination: The ICRC Prevention Examination is given four times a year ( see dates in Column 3&4 ) . Candidates will be invited to take the written exam after their application is approved as “complete” by the Peer Review Committee (on the dates shown in Column 2).
Oral Examination: The Oral Examination is conducted by the Peer Review Committee four times a year (Column 5), and is scheduled with the applicant after successful completion of the written exam (dates shown in Column 3&4).
